Before Daniel Theis signed a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers in November, a couple of Celtics stars reportedly attempted to facilitate his return to Boston.

According to MassLive’s Brian Robb and Souichi Terada, both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown talked to Theis about a reunion during his brief time as a free agent.

Theis began the year with the Indiana Pacers, a situation which Theis said was “just not right for me.” The former Celtics center had his contract bought out by the Pacers, and sought more playing time elsewhere.

Boston has been rumored to be in the market for more big man depth behind Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford. So, Theis would have been a helpful addition to the Celtics, although it may not have fit his desires of playing more minutes. Still, Theis entertained the conversations with his former teammates.

“Obviously, I had a couple of conversations … I talked to Jayson a little bit there with Jaylen,” Theis told MassLive. “But like I said, the Clippers were pretty fast, gave me the right chance at the right time.”

Theis has now had two meetings against the Celtics since signing with Los Angeles. The first time did not go very well for him, as Tatum dunked on him during a dominant Boston win. On Saturday night, though, Theis was on the other side of a blowout, and scored 18 points in the Clippers’ win.

Both the Celtics and the Clippers have title aspirations and strong lineups, so it seems Theis couldn’t go wrong no matter which team he chose.
